2009 Ford Focus Sedan

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

With an attractive MSRP of $15,520-$18,265 (depending on the amount of extra features selected) and MPG of 24 in city traffic and 35 on the highway, the 2009 automatic Ford Focus four-door sedan is a hard deal to beat, especially for those families with young children who are looking for a good deal on a safe, fuel efficient, economy car but who have a limited budget.

The 2009 Ford Focus sedan is a competitively priced compact car rated by Consumer Guide as number 56 out of 110 compared compact models, placing it dead center of the pack overall, though they rated it slightly higher than average in fuel economy, ride quality, steering/handling and driver comfort.

Standard with every 2009 Ford Focus sedan is a 140-hp, 2.0 liter inline, four cylinder engine. It has a number of available safety features including an antiskid system, ABS, traction control, and curtain side airbags as well as front side airbags. As an added bonus, it passed the NHTSA crash test with four out of five stars for both driver and passenger side tests.

The 2009 Ford Focus sedan is quite streamlined for a compact sedan, though it lacks any extras in detailing. Disappointingly, the standard model's interior is made of low budget materials which tend to be susceptible to scraping, peeling, fading, tearing and staining. It has excellent acceleration for a car of its class and the automatic transmission is a joy to drive in stop and go city traffic, though it has a hard time easily maintaining speeds in excess of 80 mph and tends to strain a bit if pushed beyond 75 mph and no matter what speed you are going, the speed and fuel gauges can be hard to read in certain lighting.

The 2009 has surprisingly responsive steering, allowing for excellent maneuverability in tight spaces, which is particularly helpful when driving in heavy traffic or in narrow streets. Its good fuel economy sees to it that a tank of gas will last approximately 400 miles. The 2009 also boasts an Innovative Sync system for integration of iPods, and has a very impressive amount of trunk space though this is negated by severely cramped leg-room in the rear passenger seats.

Overall, the 2009 Ford Focus sedan is a good quality compact car for its price range and is highly recommended for those who place practicality and price above speed and aesthetics.
