2002 Saturn S-Series SC1 Hatchback

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The 2002 Saturn S-Series SC1 Hatchback is a reliable car. My car came with cruise control, power locks operated by a remote control switch, remote control hatch operation drive and passenger side power mirrors, remote control peripheral anti-theft protection, carpeted floor mats and air conditioning. Safety features on the car include adjustable upper front and rear seatbelts, daytime running lights and an inner trunk release. The car also has several energy management features.

Like most Saturns, the car is reliable and dealing with customer service for maintenance is pleasant. The car runs great in all weather conditions. I drove it in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, an area exposed to a variety of conditions ranging from heavy rain, ice and snow and the car handled great in all of these conditions. It is a lighter, smaller car, so its bad-weather handling was somewhat surprising. The hatchback is a convenient feature and great for loading items like groceries or shopping bags.

The car gets great gas mileage, one of the most impressive features. If I were going to improve on anything, it would be the interior and the pickup. While the car handles well, it is not the best vehicle for highway driving. Even with the gas pedal to the floor, pick up was slow, making merging into oncoming traffic frustrating. The interior is user-friendly, but not the most comfortable I have ever experienced. The seats were low and pitched in an odd manner. Although most of my driving was local, the car would probably be uncomfortable for longer road trips The sound system was average, so if you enjoy listening to music while driving, you may want to look into an upgrade.
