I don't think men are just "going gay" because of a lack of available women. If they are with other men, there is at least some predisposition to bisexuality.
I'm 31. When I was in middle school, I was attracted to another boy. I was attracted to him for years. We never did anything, and I wasn't attracted to another guy for years.
When I was 22-24, somewhere in there, I started messing around some with a long-time friend who really struggled with his orientation. I don't think he ever really settled whether he was bi or gay, but we messed around for years. For me, it was just sex, but he wanted more. I had a couple of other relationships with men here and there and a transwoman. The transwoman is the only one I would have had a relationship with.
During the course of those relationships with men, I was rarely with a woman.
