Have you ever noticed lately people getting in your face through media and without you asking they just say "I'm gay" or "I'm vegan" or "I ride my bicycle to work" or "I got solar panels"? Why do they think we care or want to know? What should we do in response? Pat them on the head and say "I'm so proud of you"!

No I haven't. You may be imagining this.

No idea what you're talking about, OP. You need to fill out the picture a little. What do you mean "people"--people you know? Strangers? Friends? What do you mean by "through media"--via social media? Leaving comments on your FB page out of nowhere? Help us out, here.

I was watching videos on youtube on living in Japan. The topic had to do something with Japan and all the sudden the person doing the video feels the need to slip in that she supports gays and that she's a vegan. Also, if you listen to AM 640 KFI in California you will hear people saying they are gay and talking about being vegan all the time. On saturday a guy named Neil Savedra is always talking about vegan food on his show and it's not a show about that. I've seen this behavior on TV news and in magazines too.

I have noticed it some, but like most things, I don't really care

No one has said that to me.

I'm not a vegetarian (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I will tell people that I don't eat beef or pork, if it comes up in conversation or we're talking about lifestyles or health or the like. I don't eat beef or pork for ethical reasons, but after I gave it up, I noticed over the years that I haven't had the same health issues as others my age, so I consider that part of my attempt at healthy living. But I don't just tell people for no reason.

Are you sure you just don't like people who have those lifestyles, so whenever it comes up, you notice it and think they're throwing it in your face?

People just walk up to you and say "I'm gay"?

Neil Saavedra is a food geek. He reviews restaurants, kitchen gadgets, and such. Since vegan is popular these days, he would naturally mention that, since there are particular restaurants that cater to vegans or have entrees for vegans, and food dishes that are good for vegans.

So any food talk by him would be natural, even if he mentions it on another program. He has a food program, as well as a religious program, apparently.

You are maybe too sensitive about these things, since you disapprove of that lifestyle. Just a guess.

Being a vegan, riding a bike, and other things like that are good things. It's not like volunteering, "I'm a child molester, in case you didn't know it."

I suspect these thngs come up in conversation naturally, and you don't like it.

Have you noticed the people who believe in demons and want to exterminate monkeys? Who never ever saw an outhouse outside of Kosovo? Scary people out there!

Ah-huh, ah-huh. I see what you did there. Did you know that is the very definition of trolling?

This reminds me of a video an acquaintance of mine showed me on Youtube. It was a "social experiment" with young people coming out as gay to strangers on the street. They would actually just approach someone and say, "I'm gay! I just had to tell someone."

They seemed to expect some great response and the person who showed me the video actually gushed a bit about how brave they were and how wonderful it was to broaden people's horizons.

Three quarters of the people just said, "Ok?" in a... so what? kind of way. The other quarter just smiled and kept walking.

I have had people announce things to me in real life -- not that they were gay. My gay friends just lived their lives and it was pretty obvious. My response is pretty much the same as the people on the video... OK. Big deal. You do what you want with your life.

I've found most people think that way, really.
