Where I work we have lots of people doing some really boring jobs. One of those boring jobs is our security guards who just sit in wood chair and guard a door for the whole day. They don't walk around, have no computer, can't read or write, and the chair is super hard. They are not allowed to talk to anyone, they just sit there.

What type of person is best suited for this type of job, someone who has a very creative and active mind, high IQ, or someone who is not so bright?

Could you do an extremely boring job without going crazy?

Sorry, but this is a silly question. What is a boring job and what is interesting all depends on the individual. Some very smart people might find the job of a computer programmer very boring and others might love it.

What does "super high IQ" even mean? I know smart people who are very unwise. IQ is a rough and flawed measure of information processing ability, but that is simply the ability to process data, which is not at all the same as knowing what to do with it for your own best interests or anyone else's. It's like having a fast 8-core processor with a big data bus; all of that is useless without the right programs to run in the right circumstances. And that is only intellectual intelligence, not emotional intelligence or self-awareness.

What does "boring" mean? A smart security guard could study quantum physics while guarding a door all day, and get paid to do it -- or they could read comic books or porn or just sleep.

Bored people are, by and large, bored because they are lazy and/or uncreative and/or fearful and/or ignorant and/or inexperienced and thus limited from exploiting any situation that presents itself.

That would be my dream job, all day sitting on a chair staring at a door...I'd be far, far away, watcing a movie in my mind.

I have a somewhat high IQ and can't stand boring or repetitive jobs!

A job which is challenging and where I am always learning new things is wonderful.

Many security guards tend to be athletic types. And that might suit them just fine if they are "working out" and playing sports in their spare time. Maybe they welcome the rest after all that activity?

I don't believe anyone with an ounce of intelligence could sit in a chair all day long looking at a door. They can't read? Go online? Do anything other than sit there?? Whatever brain cells they might have will rot out within a month!

A person needs some kind of mental stimulation. To sit around all day doing nothing? And enjoying it? Something is definitely not right

I feel the exact same way.

LOL! The types that just sit there and watch a door all day are definitely not the athletic types.

The OP said they aren't allowed to do anything except watch the door. They can't study quantum physics or read comic books or sleep or read porn or go on the internet.

Now, if you were permitted to read, write, surf the internet, walk around, etc etc etc.... then that would be an awesome job. To just sit there 8 hours a day being still and mute? Yeah, I think I'd be bored out of my mind.

Ignore the heckling from the peanut gallery here. I know what you are trying to ask, and to answer your question, the answer is yes. You will die a little bit inside, but you will perservere. But I would like to add that there have been studies which show that highly intelligent individuals, when strictly placed into an intellectually destimulating environment for a prolonged period of time, will gradually lose their intelligence. So goodluck with that.
