Am I the only one what has found that IRL, as opposed to in the media, at least as many men as women develop a strong desire to have kids when they reach a certain age?
For men, IME, this seems to happen most often in their late 30s, although I have known some who get it in their early 20s.
And of course, some men, like some women, never do.
Except men physically don't have a biological clock, unlike women.

I think the more research conducted on the negative mental/physical side effects to children conceived with older men, the more a clock will start to establish itself in men as well.
Having a child was pretty much the expectation at the time, and my ex was advocating. I never felt any internal urge to have children, but wasn't strongly opposed either. I probably would not care if I hadn't, but on balance am glad I did.

In the true essence of the term "biological clock," men do not have one. Their reproductive organs do not shut down at a specified time, to never work again. This is not a topic that is up for debate.

The title is misleading. It should be "When do men start to want kids," since men don't physically have a biological clock and have no real emotional or hormonal force pushing them to settle down before it's too late.

*His* yearning to have kids was contributing factor to my marriage breaking up.
The ex-husband had a couple children already, by a woman who wouldn't marry him.
He left her & we were together 8+ years before his craving to make babies resurfaced.
I, on the other hand, had always maintained my refusal to have children-I'm 40, still feel the same on the issue.
We divorced (a decade ago), and he went off and found another woman with whom to have more offspring.
So, yeah-I agree, it's *not* always the woman who has the biological clock thing going on.
