It's a new computer and I very much need to do it. I have the money ready. Windows 8.1 is here. All that is delaying the buy is me. I've shopped and even driven to the store with the sole purpose of buying a certain one. I look at it and leave. This has gone on too long! WHY can't I do this? Does anyone have an idea?

Approach avoidance. Do you have problems making decisions generally? Or just about certain things?

Generally, no problem at all making decisions, that's why I can't figure out why I'm not willing.

Well ... maybe you are intuiting that you aren't making the right choice. If you are not that computer savvy you might want to go over your requirements and the uses you plan to put it to, to someone with more experience.

It is a large purchase, perhaps you are not convinced yet that you really want to get one. Maybe you are hoping for a sale or to get it cheaper.

Maybe because like every time I buy a new computer, they have gone and changed EVERYTHING and I spend weeks / months getting it to where I can use it?

Well in that case I strongly suggest you avoid Windows 8.

I'd get one with Windows 7. Windows 8 is a pain for people who don't like change (like me ).

Check to see if there's a place in your city that sells used laptops. In our city, there is a place called NextStep Recycling. You can get a really good deal, save yourself a lot of money, and if you donate your old computer you can usually get a discount off the already discounted price. Also, if you volunteer there for a certain number of hours, you get a free computer. Dual processor with Windows 7 loaded on it...

Buy one with windows 7. Windows 8 is too different, you'll have to really learn it.

Or buy one without windows software and then pay someone to install the software on it (if possible)

or buy one with win 8, but then have someone install windows 7 on it instead
