This is a pretty serious topic for me and I don't find it funny.

To answer your question I try to avoid mean people by picking my friends and who I come in contact wisely. I only have a few people in my life because of that. In the past I had a few more friends but I had to get rid of them because they became toxic.

I deal with some mean very people during my commutes to work which is 32 miles each way in mostly heavy traffic. What I do is stay out of their way so that will help them on their way.
If I encounter them in the work place I do the same - stay out of their way.

I do not like some of the meanness that goes on in life and that includes here on City-Data. Some are more sensitive than others, especially if they are going through a down time. I'm going to do a better job in order to avoid such people in the future, like staying away from certain boards and topics.

That is something I can control.

Yep, a great post and reminder for "real life" as well.

Not all people are toxic but kuddos on your decision. Here, I'll send you a friends request to remind you of your new awakening and help support your decision.

Thanks a lot.

I realize not all people are toxic and I thought I was careful with my wording to let that be known.

Yes, that is exactly what people do in this forum.

This forum also tends to attract those people seeking attention, whether it's because they have no real lives or because they're just plain ol' attention wh*res, and people who see nothing wrong with revealing super intimate details of their lives with total strangers who don't really give a crap about the poster (and why should they give a crap about someone they know nothing about?).

Given the number of times I've gotten hostile responses because I didn't EMBRACE the advice being given to me, I would say yes. While I consider all contributions, I only use the ones that fit me and some people get downright mad over that. Like how DARE I post asking for advice and then not just stand in AWE of their great wisdom.

Yes I think some come here to post to get affirmation. I also think people come here to vent. And some come because they're lonely IRL. People have all kinds of reasons for posting.

I guess he had the right to post here.. but that is a really creepy feeling.
Yeah, there was one of those whiny virgin guys in his early 20's, really ranting about stuck-up blonde women. They finally banned him after a few hysterical posts.
