From day one of the call waiting dealy on the phone systems, I was put off with this feature.

I never got it added to my phone as MOST everything can wait when I'm talking to someone else. Putting people on hold and then not coming back for a few minutes, I usually hang up. I just did this with a friend I use to work with years ago and we have NOT talked in years. She's retired too. We were pretty good friends but lost contact over the years just like with many as our lives take different directions.

Also, I get a tad turned off when I call someone, and we're all retired mind you, that they sound so harried and my calling them seems like an imposition. Anyway, I just went thru this with an old friend.

On the other hand I just called one of my last first cousins in FL and connected for the first time since 2005...nothing harried about this call. He was happy to hear from me.

Oh well, just kinda venting. I don't think I'm being sensitive, just thinking people are not that important.

Call waiting is great for people trying to run a business off of a single phone line. It's cheaper than paying for a 2nd line.

MANY who don't run businesses bought into this "rude" feature when it comes to friends connecting. I can see the business aspect BUT.... It's like people fear missing something by not taking another call while in conversation with someone. I can see if a person is waiting to hear from a doctor say, tell the person upfront I might have to take a call as I'm waiting to hear from doctor. Or something else IMPORTANT they are waiting for. Everyone is in a hurried mess today.

I didn't even know call waiting was still a thing. I only have a mobile phone though.

I don't think you're being sensitive either.
I could understand a business having call waiting...but with friends it's first come first served.
I think it's better to get a busy signal than it is to be put in call waiting...that seems too rude to me, and I really wouldn't have the time for waiting either.

There are a lot of old dinoasurs living with a land phone believe it or not. What do those who live only with the smartie phone do when they are talking, if they still do, and a call is coming it...

I've never used call waiting and never wanted to. It's a relief to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't feel comfortable with it. When my friends used it during a call to me, I always felt slightly insulted to be put on hold for someone more important. Even if it's just for a few moments, it still feels rude.
