Being a minimalist has allowed me to put attention to areas of life that are more important , spending less money feels great, reduces stress, sleep easier, lots of benefits to it. Less clutter , Less hoarding, more organizing, a cleaner look, more money in savings for an emergency fund to go towards new tires if car ever needs it, Living with less has brought such great peace in my heart, mind , soul.

I think it depends, for some yes, others no. For me minimizing has gone beyond downsizing but included minimizing contact with toxic relatives/toxic people, staying away from other people’s drama, not getting wrapped up in anger or the vitriol of politics, living a modest and moderate lifestyle, and quietly pursuing my art outside of the swirl of the business of the art world.
I have a friend who is the opposite and it works for her and that makes me happy for her.
Before I moved from Las Vegas to Tucson I took 8 boxes to Salvation Army and oh did that feel good! Minimalism here I come!
Unpacking in Tucson: Do I really need this or that? And 6 boxes went to Salvation Army! One of the greatest feelings in the world, to lessen, lessen, lessen.
I made another move to another area of Tucson and before moving, 5 boxes when to Salvation Army and when unpacking, again: Do I really need this or that? Another 4 boxes went to Salvation Army.
I'm hoping I'm down to skinny now, but I love the feeling, and miss the feeling of throwing things out!

Yes, less is better for all the reasons you listed. I do catch myself going back to my old ways every once in a while. Now I have to pinpoint why it starts.

I've heard of some people who, before they buy something bargain with themselves and get rid of an item they already have. That way they "stay even" and don't start building up again.

Working on it here too. Have a room I've just been using as storage but now once again clearing out. Need to have it as a bedroom/storage.
Have argued with myself about a few things but since space is at a premium in this house,
out it goes...
Do the minimalists in this thread eschew the idea of keeping spares?
Example: buying another bottle of laundry detergent when your current one is at 1/4 bottle, or buying multi-packs of paper towels?
Just curious "to what extreme" minimalism extends for many of you.
I don't go to extremes on minimal living and like to keep extra toilet paper on hand and detergent and dish detergent but I don't shop Costco and buy mega items. But it's only me and it's just not collecting STUFF anymore is where I am...living 80 yrs one collects a lot. And for me I drink a lot of bottled water and don't like to run out.
