Why are females with grown or no kids typically not expected to contribute in most cultures? I noticed this living throughout the EU just as much as the US..

Contribute what? Converting oxygen to carbon dioxide so plants can breathe? Generating revenue for the local economy by shopping? Being a member of their Neighborhood Watch because they are home all day? Saving song birds by feeding stray cats?

Who is doing this expecting? Men of the same age who can't land a date with one?

For that matter, what do you mean by "contribute"?

Whatever are you talking about? I’ve known many, many women who had careers and retired the same as men.

I took an 11 year hiatus when I had children, but went back to work and worked till retirement age. I knew many other women who did same. Younger women often don’t even take a hiatus; they often must work throughout their adult lives, children or no, until they retire.

I'm talking about the common practice of giving females a pass with the expectancy of paing a share of living expenses.. Men don't typically go shopping while the females go to work to pay 100% of the living expenses..

I take it from the instant-defensive you both knew exactly what I was asking.. Can we turn the PC switch off?

I also don't know what you're talking about. The women I know who don't work, don't work because they are at home raising the kids. That's still "contributing".

Trophy wives exist, but I wouldn't say they are even close to the norm.

What females are you discussing? Females in the leisure class who are socialites and don’t have to work? There aren’t very many of those as far as I know. In that class, there are probably just as many men who are not working or contributing.

No, I don’t. I really don’t.

You seem to have an odd idea about how marriage works.

I mean, just today I went shopping while my wife was at work.

There isn’t. If each are single, they are both expected to support themselves. If it’s a joint decision as part of a marriage or partnership for one of them to work less (or not at all), it really can’t be defined as ‘unemployment’.

Neither do I. I don't have kids, have always worked, have always contributed whether in a relationship or not. It would never occur to me not to. What is it with C-D right now? Is this throwback '50s week for downtrodden men or something? Posts about being pressured to lie about fathering kids, posts about prenups and female/male breadwinners, then this.
