I often get asked my age. That's apart from when I need to identify myself - which in itself is a bit odd. If they know my birth date then it's not a secret.

I did a quick google search for myself and my identity is quite safe. Apparently I am a wealthy guy. Of course that could make me a target of fraud.

Anyway, to answer the OP question; we don't say we are 50 something when we are 53. We only say we are 50 something when we are 59.

I personally feel violated when someone asks for my DOB (drugstore, doctor's office, work, etc) because I hate the fact that I'm now over 50.

You'll know you're really old when someone coyly states that you are "XX years young."

It used to be considered rude ask about one's age. Unless it's really close friends or family one doesn't talk about age. This is partly why many plaster a front lawn with something like 'Happy 50th Birthday' because that person is poo-pooing the tradition of not talking about age and flaunting it.

Some people don't care. Those who dye hair, ware wigs, toupees or teen fashions etc got a little insecurity going on. Some accept where they are in life other's don't. They're probably still looking for something they haven't found yet.

When I was a kid, my mother would never tell us her age!

Same. I remember when my mother did finally tell me. I was 7 years old and she was 34. She told me to keep it to myself. I blurted out to the mailman that she was 44. That didn't go over well, haha.

It still is rude, but for some reason some people seem to think they are entitled to ask your business and if somehow you don’t satisfy their curiosity They claim you’re the one being rude or ashamed.

The funny thing is, 34 sounds like a baby to me now. I can’t imagine someone being ashamed of that age!

I know, right? I hadn't even had my third child when I was 34!
