Has anyone ever e-mailed (in your capacity as a resident of local area or alumnus) a question about social psychology to a college professor of psychology and received a helpful response?

Is it an academic (research / intellectual) question or something about the social psych program at that university?

They likely don't have time to answer general questions, but sure, they might be nice about it. Why don't you google it yourself or ask on here?

It is an academic (research/intellectual) question about social psychology that I want answered by someone with a credentialed background in psychology.

I need the reponse to be from someone with a verifiable degree, not an anonymous internet poster.

FWIW, when I was in university, I had some research to conduct for an assignment and called various professors to get their insights on the topic. Some were surprisingly helpful and chatty. If you frame a legitimate question in a way that indicates you're researching a topic, you might get some helpful responses. I've found that if it's a relevant subject, they are generally more than happy to chat about something that pertains to the field they're passionate about.

My field is different, but I generally reply to inquiries if they are:

1. Politely phrased.

2. Comprehensible.

3. Specific enough.

4. Not something that can easily be found online.

5. Not being asked with a clearly political goal in mind.

6. Not something inspired by a Dan Brown novel or similar.

You'll never know until you try. Since psychology has many subfields, be sure to address your question to a psychology professor with a background in social psychology.

Also. my experience. When profs know that you are, bright, dedicated, and have somewhat more than a passing interest in their field they are on alert.

They love people who a[[reciate their field. Better yet, feel a passion for that field! They want and want you, also share that passion!
