I agree 100% with this. We were punk rockers in the 70s and Valley Girls in the 80s. Too young for Viet Nam, Woodstock, etc. I am glad they now have a name for us (Generation Jones)

I predict that sociologists will identify a cusp generation spanning young Millennials and older Gen Z...kids born between about 1996 and 2004 who were in high school and college during the pandemic and saw their entire world and future upended.

Even with Millennials, you have those who had finished college and were safely in "good" jobs by 2009, who have a very different situation from those who were graduated from college during and after the Great Recession.

I think it might be the condescending phrase “OK Boomer” that makes boomers mad. We boomers were marketed to, surveyed, written about and referenced for decades. Now it seems, the tide has turned and we are a generation to be derided.

Oh well.

Same people that constantly go around trashing Millenials
now are offended that people call them Boomers

Yeah but it isn’t like other age groups have condescending nicknames. I am a middle aged white lady and I have one (non-white) friend who is always joking with me that I missed a chance to have my Karen moment. I don’t get mad about it… in the last place I lived, I was in an inexpensive beach condo, but it seemed like this Mecca for middle aged white men to open up craft breweries/pubs and middle aged white women to open up yoga studios. I would joke I was being a stereotypical middle aged white lady going to yoga.

The appropriate thing to say when somebody says "Boomer" to you is for you to say "Sooner!!" Problem solved.

I grew up as a Baby Boomer and kinda proud of it. We couldn't wait to play Trivial Pursuit - Boomer Edition when it came out in the 80's.

I'm not sure why you think people get upset over being referred to as the boomer age group. Just because a few people you know seemed offended by it doesn't make it widespread, any more than a few people not liking "Generation X-ers" as being referred to them.

I'm in the boomer age group and am not offended by the term.

Why "Sooner?

Other than sorta rhyming it has no relation to Boomer.

In fact, Sooners is the nickname given to settlers of the Oklahoma Territory which opened to settlement on April 22, 1889. Derived from the proclamation that contained a clause stating that anybody who entered the land prior to opening date would be denied the right to claim the land.

The term was originally derogatory because it referred to cheaters who jumped the gun.

By the 1900s, the term evolved to affectionately refer to Oklahomans.
