Well, I think I will be making some phone calls tomorrow. We just got our homeowner insurance renewal in the mail today. It increased from $1500 to $1900. Time to shop around.

Wow! I think I'll be doing the same. Mine went from $2489 to $2644 . I wish mine was only $1900 (or better yet $1500).

I have called and left messages and emailed seven insurance companies in the last week. Only two return calls. I guess it must be nice NOT to need anymore business. Jeez.

Not sure. I have a wind mitigation report that I think is acceptable, no claims history, and not a big (1400 s/f) or new (1974) house. While the elevation may be lower than today's standards, I would think that should only affect flood insurance, not homeowners. I'll be insurance shopping today!

That's really high. Ours is 1970, 1,750 sqft, 9ft elevation, on the water in PC, hip roof, no wind mitigation report, shutters discount. Mine went up to $1,683 this year (plus $516 for flood). Homeowner's Choice (through Allstate)

Wow, does it ever pay to shop around. I just got my second quote back, at a savings of over $1,000.

Default Insurance

Getting referrals on which agents are competitive and nice to work with is one thing but trying to find value in comparing rates with others is an exercise in futility.

Your home is your 'castle'...and there ain't no other 'castle' like it. Then, you need to also consider the various options in coverage and deductibles. Shop and compare!!

I had to do the shop and compare thing back in April. I went with Amberg Insurance at 941 743 5300. My rates had gone from 1900 to 2400 on homeowners. I ended up with more coverage for only $1500. Also they found out I had been overcharged on last years flood insurance by like $200. How would I know, I just moved here last year! Anyway they are in Port Charlotte and easy to do business with.

Oh and car insurance here, I had to do a lot of shopping around for that too. Farmers online was the best for me. I had looked on here for info on who to go to as well. I am sorry but I have to say I though Izzi Insurance was horrible. I called and asked for Satin Jones and she wasn't available. I can't remember who it was that I actually spoke to, but it was a couple people on different days and no one could answer simple questions for me. I finally gave up on them.
