Doors open from outside...glass is tinted but not green...just looks that way in this sunlight against the color of our exterior walls.

Day 28: finally finished. Have to leave the impact glass window stickers on for the final County inspection.
We are very pleased with the final product and can't wait to see these views accompanied by a pool & cage.

Final shot from the outside: each one of these four panels weighs over 350 pounds.

Looks Great!

Just curious how wide are the upper and lower channels?
Also did they pour a footing for the lower channel to sit on?

Gary

Update:

One of the added benefits of our 12' wide sliding glass wall is all of the natural light coming into the house, brightening up our world. But we also noticed how dark this made the front of the house seem, as there is a center wall in the kitchen, separating the front and back living areas of our house. That wall casts a shadow to the front and even though there are two windows to the front room, there was a noticeable dark spot in the home.

Solution:
We had our GC arrange the installation of a 14" sun tube, aka sky light. There is a small dome on our east facing hip roof and a round lense in the vaulted ceiling of our living room. The tube is made of reflective aluminum that spreads the natural light over 300sq ft in the room. I was worried about our TV because the most optimum place in the room was directly in line with our LCD TV but we heard it would not glare. It doesn't and we are thrilled with the result. The material for the dome is impact resistant to meet the eqivilent of the Miami Dade building code (can't imagine Charlotte County being more strict). Our GC did the project for $800. We got a second bid from a roofer we heard about on CD. They wanted $1250. Glad we stuck with our guy from Coral Coast Construction. They used a flashing sealant and have done dozens of these in the last few years with no leaks. They warranty the material and labor for a year.

It looks and feels like a totally different house, with the changes we've made. Here's a photo of the sun tube and result in the room. You can see some shadowing near the front door, still, because of the vault in the ceiling. Well multiply that shadowing times 5 and that's how dark this room felt. Not anymore.

It's nice to have that extra light. We have sky lights in a few of our rooms but when it's time to do a new roof in a few years I am going to look into replacing them with sun tubes.

On another note if it becomes an issue ,it's my understanding that the 70 inch LED TV's show much lecture glare.

Gary, I'll have you give that research to my wife the next time I need a new TV.

This morning I awoke at 5 AM and came out to the moonlight shining through the glass sliders. I sat and enjoyed my first cup thinking how nice life is without fences. (At our AZ house we had a view of pool with a 6' block wall surrounding the backyard).

By 6:15 the full moon was setting to the west, right before my eyes. Simply gorgeous. 25 minutes later I watched the sunrise through the front windows and the new skylight became aglow.
