Hey everybody. Long time listener, first time caller.. haha..

Originally from Bucks County PA, residing in Howard County MD, and dreaming of PG FL..

Wife and I are getting close to owning a PGI home (vaca.-->retire). Found this forum while investigating "Poachers Cut".

Narrowed down to a great home on 'key' lot with short seawall, nonstandard dock with angled lift. Not optimal for a fisherman like me but if I can fit a mid-20' bay or flats boat I will be happy. Talking to PG about this. We would eventually like to have two boats (Louise would like a small skiff to run around with), but will probably have to rent a second lift for that..

Any general insight/input you folks can provide regarding living on a canal would be most-appreciated. I am a big fisherman and wife loves the water as well.

Thanks all,

Mike Gussin

Hey Mike,

Welcome to the forum. It is a great place to ask questions and get a LOT of great information on the area.
I would note a couple important things to consider, but since you have been on the forum reading for a while, you probably know a lot already.

1. Read the stick thread on PGI on the top of the forum. There is a ton of great information there, as noted, you probably have covered it already.

2. Join the Punta Gorda Isle Civic Association Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association there are a lot of great clubs there, which serve to provide a lot of information, including a fantastic fishing club that has guest speakers (usually fishing experts, and guides (that include Fishing Frank), and some of the local tackle shops. They will teach you a lot about fishing here in the harbor and gulf area. You have a lot to learn, and learning saves you money, and increases your pleasure on the water. At the fishing club, they also have door prizes where they give away great gear just for showing up. And they have breakfasts once a week to talk about what is biting and where its biting - saves tons of gas $$. Trust me on this one. I fished the Chesapeake Bay and rivers in MD and PA and NY for decades - there is a lot to learn. Fish species are different here, and seasonal. The boat you have will be fantastic down here.

3. The other clubs have lunches and dinners around the area, and you will meet and make friends faster than you can imagine. Lots of parties and get togethers. Don't worry about being a snow bird, many that are members are snowbirds too.

I was from MD, but built in Bucks County PA, and all over PA, Virginia, and MD. You have seen many of the buildings I've built and don't even know it. ;-)

Good luck on your procurement efforts!! Feel free to ask question. Many of us like to help!!
