I am new to the area and are looking at purchasing a boat. I am looking at a 24 foot bayliner with hard top.
According to specifications the hight is 8 feet 9 inches and draft is 3 feet 5 inches.
Can anyone tell me if I will have any problems getting in and out to the Bay Area?

If you mean the midway bridge along the Countryman waterway, that boat will be fine to clear that. I formerly owned a 26' walk around with a hard top and never had a problem there. The Edgwater bridge is also no problem. The Pellam bridge is definately too low to accommodate hard tops without playing the tides. How far back will you need to navigate?

I guess it would help if you can find out what the height of the boat is from the waterline. The 8'-9" is taken from either the bottom of the keel or at the lowest point of the outdrive. Either way, it seems like MA's response is spot on.

wow, I just realized the draft he posted. In my opinion, that draft is completely wrong for this area. Must be an I/O.
Fjordviking, I would advise you to NOT purchase that boat...not for the height but for the draft.
You really want to stick to an outboard in these waters, particularly with our ultra low winter tides, otherwise you really limit yourself on the days or times of day when you can come and go or even plane out once you leave the channel.

That draft doesn't sound right for that boat.

I just looked up a random Bayliner 2452 Ciera Express with an I/O. It has a draft of 2'-11". Not quite 3'-5" but still deep. I agree the draft may prove troublesome.

That bridge normally has at least 10' of clearance in all but the highest tides.

I agree, that's a lot of draft! You wouldn't be able to get it off your lift unless the tide was high or you dug it out. I don't mind I/O's but MA is right, they are not ideal down here. And new boaters usually buy Bayliners because they've heard of them (they made millions)....but I'd stay away from any Bayliner except maybe a Trophy. They are just not made well at all.

You can trim up a I/O just like an outboard. I've had a 24' SeaRay and now a 26' WellCraft in and out of the Pellam and Countryman water ways with no issues Granted I won't get out at low tide in the winter but If I wait for the tide to start coming back in there's no problem. At a zero tide, I have 4' of water under my lift

You can but: 1, the hulls made for I/O's are designed to hold that big car engine so they naturally draft more even without the drive down. 2, I/O's are NOT meant to be driven with the drive tilted up for anything more than "emergency" periods of time. 3, And for me, without a lift, I/O's drives/props don't come anywhere near out of the water when tilted up, so long term in-water storage is not an option.
