Darn! That's one of my favorite eats. And I won't be back down in time to get a last meal there. :-(
Best of luck to Maralee & Tony and thanks for some great meals!

Front Page of Charlotte Sun 8/29/2015 in the "Side Dish" column by Sue Wade

Maralee McGowen at Harbor Seafood, and Dary Colom at Cilantro’s Restaurant got to know each other as neighbors in the Tamiami strip mall south of Conway in Port Charlotte.

McGowen fell so in love with Colom’s sinful tres leches flan cake that she began offering it at her Tortuga’s Seafood Restaurant in Towles Plaza in Punta Gorda.

McGowen moved Harbor Seafood to a place next to Tortuga’s, but now the two owners will again be neighbors.

How this came about is both bittersweet — for McGowen — and exhilarating — for Colom.
Colom, whose Latin restaurant has become a pan-Latino hub and a go-to for Hispanic cuisine, agreed to buy out the contents of Tortuga’s larger, cooler space. It’s a big change, says Colom, but she embraces the new. “If we don’t change, how will we know whether we can do it?”

She’ll continue karaoke Friday nights and add Thursday night specials for car dealers along Punta Gorda’s “auto row.”

McGowen’s two-time TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winner, Tortuga’s, closes its doors today, so she and partner Tony Millan can focus on priorities. Says McGowen, “Life is simply too short, and we want to have more time for each other, our family, and our friends.”

Harbor Seafood continues its commitment to fresh seafood, but during the eatery transfer, it will close from Sept. 7-12.

Cilantro’s will start moving into Towles Plaza as soon as possible before closing shop in Port Charlotte on Sept. 15.

Now you can once again pick up the best arepas and crab cakes in town all in one trip.
