Over the years I have used several small outfits that used chlorine to power wash the cement tile roof. I have never added a chemical to delay the algae growth that is being advertised these days. The only one I have heard of is "Roof-A-Cide" and I don't know anyone who has tried it. It is not cheap. Is anybody else familiar with this type of chemical?

Also my neighbor is under the gun to have his roof powerwashed and can't get anything done till at least Oct. Does anybody have an outfit to recommend in this area?

Thanks

Problem with getting someone to power wash a roof, lanai area, etc is, bluntly, licensing. You have to have both a state license and a local occupational license. No license, no work in the community. Te cities and counties make a lot of money with the licensing scheme, and the local contractors support it because it drives up costs through a lack of competition.

That is the way it works. Sorry.

Thanks for getting back to me Restrain.

I really hoped a few of on here had used the chemical to slow down the algae re-grow.

Be real careful with power washing a tile roof. Don't have one myself, but have heard horror stories about damage to tile roofs when this is done. Call a roofing company and get a professional opinion as opposed to hiring Jake the Power Washer from Craigslist.

They can crack fairly easy if someone's not careful. So a 300 lb. guy dragging the power washer hose around blasting them can result in damage to some tiles.

The people we bought from had the roof cleaned with one of those "cides". It didn't do a great job, the company demanded $200 more to come back and touch it up, and some spots now look as bad as they did before (2 1/2 yrs ago).
