Roofs are not designed to take 160 mph winds. Singles will blow off at 75 mph arch. around 110 but I would not want to put money on that.

Well I guess Irma proved that wrong and also roof shingles storm nailed wind ratings are higher than you posted. More like 110 - 150 ratings.

We're in North Port, right next to Port Charlotte area and we mostly have some uprooted trees, downed limbs, damaged fencing, screens, street signs. Quite minor. We drove home at 2am Monday morning. It seemed to move past us much quicker then I expected. We are very grateful for no damage to our home. Seems like most around here have minimal to no damage. It could of been much worse.

actually NO, CHEAP SHINGLES, are rated to low winds, decent builders (ahem) who use GAF with dura grip , have shingles that pass ASTM Class H wind test , resistant up to 150mph.

I just drove down Aqui Esta this morning checking on a home for one of my customers on Bal Harbor. I went from US 41 to Aqui Esta to Bal Harbor. The only damage I saw was tree limbs and palm fronds. Everything looks pretty good. There was a power truck working on a pole on Bal Harbor. Power is back on.

I wasn't sure if I could get through on Marion because I saw photos of Marion and Retta Esplanade being flooded. They were both open and water receded. PGI is getting back up and running. Some restaurants and gas stations were open. Publix and WalMart were open.
