I just bought a canalfront lot in the Palm Shores community of Punta Gorda and I don't know anything about the area. Could anyone let me know how long it takes to get to the Gulf? And anything else (parks nearby, community resources, etc) that someone new to the area would appreciate some info on? I would REALLY appreciate any info!

I assume you're referring to Punta Gorda Palm Shores on the Peace River. You are 30 miles out to Boca Pass (i.e. the "pretty water"), which is a solid hour assuming a cruising speed of 30mph. Better plan a day trip if you're going out, and the harbor can get pretty nasty if the wind kicks up, so it can be a pounding, wet ride in a small boat. You'll be doing more river & harbor cruising...

Yes, I meant the Palm Shores community of Punta Gorda. That info is very helpful...I am hoping it is considered a decent area since I can only go by what I have been able to find online.

Unfortunately, "decent area" is a subjective term that means different things to different folks, so I can't comment on that. But if you plan to do a lot of boating, especially out to the Gulf, the long distance will get tiring.
You do however have some great river boating. It's a very serene & scenic few miles up river to Nav-A Gator bar & grill (think OLD Florida). You'll likely see gators along the river banks. Or you can boat into Punta Gorda and moor at the floating courtesy dock at Laishley Marina for several restaurant options (at the marina or a short walk into downtown). And of course there's Fisherman's Village. Tie up at Harpoon Harry's. There are several bars/restaurants in the village, along with dozens of boutique shops.
