We will be moving down to Punta Gorda sometime early 2019. My question is we live in Pa. now and have all season tires on our 2016 mazda cx 5, but when we relocate to Fl. it will be time for new tires for our vehicle. Any comments on which type of tires to buy since it doesn't snow and it is hotter for longer periods of the year and for all the rain down there. Any help will be much appreciated.

I would go to tirerack.com and start to do some research. They have a ton of information including test reports and end-user reviews. One of the most important tire traits you will want to look for will be wet handling - with these big FL rain storms you will want a tire that is best in class to guard against hydro-planning, water removable and wet braking response. Typically any tire available on tirerack can be ordered and installed by your local tire shop. I have Continental CrossContact LX20's on my 2015 Ford AWD Escape and they preform very well and are reasonably priced.

most any tire dealer will steer you toward a wet traction tire if ya ask..got my wifes at Sam's club and just told the service writer I wanted wet traction tires..same thing for my daughter's car at an independent dealer..

Over 90% of the tires sold down here are probably some sort of all-season tire. Many have fancy names that cost more (summer tire, rain tire etc), but the rain in Florida is the same as the rain in PA. It's wet. The amount of water on the roads, even in downpours, is usually minimal....actually usually less than I've seen in the NE due to the way the roads and sand drain better here.

I just bought a new set of Michelin tires for my Honda Pilot and there’s nothing really special about them as far as I know. One thing you might hear from a tire dealer is that the Florida roads are often made with a mixture of asphalt and seashells, which some people claim wears out tires faster. Personally, I don’t believe it. Since I’ve only been here a year, we shall see.
