I was channel surfing and on HGTV My Lottery Dream Home was just staring. I was going to move on but then I heard that they were in Punta Gorda. I was watching the show and low and behold the second home (a condo) that they showed - when they went and panned out the rear window in the master bedroom, it was a shot of the back of my house and my boat on the lift.... It was pretty cool … makes you think what are the odds!

HGTV
Season 7, Episode 3
Some Like It Hotter

After their retirement got a lot warmer with a $1-million New York Scratcher win, a couple is following their best friends to Punta Gorda, Florida, where they hope to buy into a classy retirement village. Home-state boy David Bromstad is ready to rev up the golf buggy to find the newly minted millionaires their dream home!

The episode will re-air on:

I saw that the other day. Is that where they wanted to be on a golf course? One place had a pond but on the other side you could hear and see highway traffic

I think they went with the new build and went back to film once it was done. A lot nicer than the old condo IMHO

Yes - that's the episode. They made their decision on the roof top bar of the Wyvern.

Nice home and they get to get around via golf cart

Something we dont do as it is a smaller newer gated community no golf

My best friends sister was in that show with her husband and the buyer. The buyers were a couple they met at Blue Heron Pines who won the NY lottery and were featured on the show. Lot's of made up stuff, but it is just a show, after all. They had already bought and closed on the mobile home in Blue Heron Pines on the clubhouse side of the road right next to I75. It was nice to get Punta Gorda highlighted though.

So did they buy the new place and keep or sell the mobile home?

Sad when that is all a lottery winner can afford......

1mm scratch ticket was mentioned. In most cases the 1mm is an annuity so they get about 60% in cash then pay 37% income tax on that. So 600K minus 37% is about 400K. Buy a new car/truck and a golf cart then all you have left is money for a trailer.
