Hi. We’re new Florida residents and we are not sure what to do about our pool heater. When do you normally turn it on and what do you set it to? To cover or not to cover? Thanks in advance for the replies!

When you turn it on and what temp all depends upon your tolerance. I can do. Water in the 70’s where the wife has to have it at 85. I. Usually try to keep it above 75 for quicker recovery and better efficiency. A cover is a big help especially for the night time.

Second the use of a cover. Helps keep the heat in along with the evaporation down. Plus, when the sun is high enough you may be able to put the heater to rest a few weeks earlier.

Thanks for the help! 10-4 on the cover. We have a Roman pool, basically a large rectangle with 3 rounded area on 3 sides. One is the sun shelf, one is a sitting area with extra jets and one is for the steps. Should a cover cover the rounded areas on the sides?

We keep our pool at 85 or 6 in the summer, but now that the sun has moved, and the pool is in the shade anytime after noon, we've turned it up to 87. We haven't used a cover YET, it's still rolled up in the storage bin. We're going to wait and see how our electricity bills go up as it gets colder. Once we unroll that cover, we have no where to store it, and are concerned about the black mildew or mold, whatever it is, that gets on everything here next to the river. If we can live without covering it, we won't.

Yes, otherwise it's like heating (or cooling) your house while leaving the windows open.

We got into a routine of whenever the A/C got shut down for the winter (Oct or Nov) the pool heater got turned on. A/C would go on Feb or March due to pollen and pool heater usually would be shut off sometime there after. Kept the solar cover on all winter unless we had a gathering or visitors. I was in it almost daily and would just push the cover over enough to open up a small portion of the water.

Tried to get the brand new pool heat pump to work, nothing. Turned on the pool circulation, set the temp to 83, the heat pump has yet to come on. Any ideas.

I just got a reputation comment, but I cannot respond to it. I left the heater on for about an hour before I gave up, the pool was reading 79 degrees when I turned it on. Thanks for trying to help me out with this.

Do you have a remote pad in the house for the heater or just controls on the unit?
