Monday (May 14) I was listening to NPR on the way back to work from an appointment. There was a story on that had me totally engrossed. I sat in my car in the parking lot for 10 minutes hoping I could get some info so I could go back and read/re-listen later. But I had to go into work.

The basics of the story: Man grows up in old house, there is a pantry door in the kitchen that seems to say "help me" whenever it is opened. Parents try for years to fix the squeak, but nothing ever works. Man grows up gets married, and buys the house from his parents, and moves back in. He and his wife confinue to try to find solutions.(replace hinges, door, flooring etc) Eventually they find a series of hidden chambers, and that is when things get mysterious.

Anyone know if this was just a story or if this is part of a book?

LOL. sure. I searched and searched both my lsocal NPR sites. I tried every combination of search words that were key to the story that I could think of. I could not find it anywhere there. This was sort of a last ditch effort with the hope that MAYBE someone else heard and and knew. Never hurts to ask.

True. And it sounds interesting.
I didn't hear it myself so...I'd just be repeating whatever search options you've no doubt tried already.
Maybe someone else here can help though...

npr.org
lists their on-air shows so you could check into each one...I have no idea what you heard but:

I used to be an avid listener of the Diane Rehm Show...she interviews interesting people with stories to tell and many authors of fascinating books... this could be a place to start looking....

Gah, I had at first thought it was Diane Rehm Show, because the story was on when her segment is usually on, but I could not find anything listed in the archives or podcasts. This is driving me nuts.

I did find an email, so maybe I will email the station, but that seems a little strange.

I was wondering what happened at the end of the story I was listening to on May 14 as I couldn't finish listening to it due to an obligation but I've always wondered what happened and really would like to hear the rest of the story. NPR May 14 or 15th in the LA Area KPCC I believe. Not sure how to find out access to the podcast. Anyone know the story I'm talking about who can point me in the right direction? Thanks~

I'm wondering why that seems strange to you - they would have the answer right at their fingertips and would be able to find it as soon as you told them what time it was. I'd've called them, personally. I think they'd love to hear you were so engaged, and would be happy to help you.

Not all shows on NPR stations are produced by NPR. Many shows that NPR affiliates broadcast are produced by American Public Media, Public Radio Internation, PRX, and other production companies and NPR afiliates themselves. If you can find the name of the program that is played at that time, you may be able to find more info on it from whichever producer or afiliate the show is produced by.
