For Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point. Surprisingly our most popular is not a Top 40s station.
1. WQMG 97.1 (10.8%) - R&B and Jazz, pretty good station.
2. WPAW 93.1 "The Wolf" (10.1%) - Country, was an oldies station until 2006.
3. WJMH 102.1 "102 Jamz" (8.8%) - Old School Hip-Hop, pretty good station.
4. WMAG 99.5 (8.2%) - Classic rock, 60s and 70s.
5. WTQR 104.1 (7.9%) - Yet another contemporary country station.
6. WSMW 98.7 "Simon" (6.9%) - This station is true to their "we play everything" slogan. They take a lot of listener requests. Great compromise station in the car.
7. WKRR 92.3 "Rock 92" (4.5%) - Mostly classic rock from the 60s to the 80s, with some contemporary. My favorite local station.
8. WVBZ 100.3 "The Buzz" (4.5%) - Contemporary rock, plays some metal as well. Generally the station I tune to if Rock 92 is on commercial break. Their DJs are all extremely annoying.
9. WKZL 107.5 (4.2%) - Top 40s. THE worst station, period.
10. WMKS 105.7 (3.5%) - Top 40s, slightly more tolerable than 107.5.
It's difficult to determine our market's most popular stations now, because one major ownership group and most of the smaller groups don't subscribe to Arbitron. Therefore Arbitron does not list them.
Under the old diary system, #1 often rotated between Urban KPRS, rock KQRC and one of our many country stations. When we switched to PPM measurements, all of a sudden the top stations in town were classic rock KCFX or classic hits KCMO-FM.

Seattle's top 2 are news-talk, followed by Classic Rock, then more newstalk. The highest rated Top-40 station is rated #4. I suspect that many of those that like the Top 40 music are doing streaming.

It could be anything. If you're into music, then the 690 AM radio, KQMQ radio. But if you're into college football sports, Hawai'i, then 1420 Am radio and ESPN will do. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter. The only 2 main stations I put the radio on to.
1- WEJZ, Your "at work" radio station, lite/soft rock. Renda
2- WOKV, News/Talk. EJZ & OKV often flip back and forth in the top two spots. Cox
3- WJGL, Classic Hits, leans classic rock. Bland Cox product.
4- WEZI, Soft AC, Leans heavily 80's. Cox
5- WSOL- Old skool Hip Hop, canned IHR junk
6- WQIK- IHR Country outlet
7- WJCT- The local NPR outlet. I didn't think NPR stations were measured....
8- WJBT- IHR "The Beat" Urban product
9- WWJK- "Planet Radio" Classic rock, leans 90's-2k. Will play some currents. Voicetracked IHR jocks
10- WGNE- "New" Country, Renda
Notably absent: Top 40 WAPE. They're at 11. Competitor WKSL comes in at 12.
