I am sitting here in tears this afternoon. One of my dearest friend is fighting for her life with Stage IV lung cancer. She doesn't have children and lives alone with her dearest companion, her dog. He was hit by a car yesterday and died. If you could have known this dog. He was the most beautiful, magnificent being that was adored by everyone who knew him. He was such a comfort to my friend. She has been so tired because of her treatments, and he was always next to her, looking out for her. He was beautiful, and happy and so full of life. All of her friends are devastated for themselves and for her. This is her second round of treatments for this aggressive cancer in the past year, and I honestly don't know if this will be the end of her. I think it would be for me.

Fortunately, she has lots of friends and some family who have been there for her through this entire ordeal for the past two years. And I know they will continue to be.

Thank you for listening to me, as I just had to have a place to express what I'm feeling right now.

Oh, no....what a loss at such a hard time.

We know how hard it is to lose a pet.... well, I'm sure she is devastated. And you are devastated for her too. Hardly anything to say except hope she finds comfort with you and others as she continues treatment.

Our pets are so dear...and friends too.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, she is devastated. As are we all.

I am SO sorry. Losing a pet at any time is heartbreaking, but to endure it while battling end-stage cancer - and in such a tragic way - is just devastating.

It is, Rachel. I couldn't believe it. She is such a strong, amazing lady and to see this happen to her was devastating for sure.

That's horrific. That's great that she has you and other friends and family to help her out. Keep it up!

Very sorry to hear this. If your friend believes/would take comfort in Rainbow Bridge and dogs going to heaven perhaps the dog went on ahead to prepare and will greet her there.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words. I hope somehow she can find comfort in her memories and connection with this magnificent animal.

I realize there is nothing that can replace her furry friend, but perhaps visits from a therapy dog might be helpful?
