Any idea where I'd get one from? I'll see how complicated my lamp is - if I'm going to give it a go, I'll give you a heads up to stay clear of my neighborhood!
I bought it at either Home Depot or Lowes. The kit came with everything.
Local lamp co's are Thompson Lynch in Cameron Village and there's one on Western Blvd = Shade Tree i think?
I'm with you, don't use a converter, especially for prolonged use. I've never had luck with those.
Most lamps are pretty easy to rewire if the design makes it so. I did table lamp and standing lamp with no clue at first. They came out fine. If you are hesitant, maybe take it for a estimate?
We moved from 220 volts to 110 and just switched the bulbs in the lamps, hesitantly plugged them in and they worked fine.Moved again to 220(a different country from the original)and switched bulbs and the lamps worked fine.Done this 4 times last 11 years--from 220 to 110 and back to 220 and then again to 110.
So I ended up buying a kit from Lowes and rewiring it - it was easier than I was expecting....
That said - the bulbs are a different size so had to get a new socket too. The guy in Lowes (Lynn Road) was amazingly helpful and seemed to know the European to USA challenges with this. Anyway - looks sorted now -lampshade is a little loose because its a different size screwtop now to the US socket, but good enough - thanks to everyone for their advise!
Cheers
