Been in Raleigh a few years and looking for some new places to try at lunch. Seems like my co-workers and I have settled into the same rotation of places including many chain restaurants, etc.

What are your favorite places? Would like to discover more locally run places - I don't need suggestions of Chilis, Applebees, etc. ha ha

I'll start....I absolutely love going to Solomons on Capital Blvd in Mini-City. Good, unique food, fair prices and speedy service.

Downtown - Spize Cafe on Fayetville St. Try their "baguettes," a variation of Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches. The pork baguette is possibly the best sandwich in town. Also, any sandwich at Raleigh Times is good.

Northish Raleigh - The Malaysian Street Curry Noodles at Fortune Palace just off of Capital is really good. Skip the buffet and order from the "Asian items" at the back of their menu, not the Anglo stuff at the front. Also off Capital, the tacos at Los Cuates, a converted drive through, are worth the trip.

Zest Cafe in N.Raleigh at the intersection of Strickland/Six Forks is a hidden gem I love. They always have fresh ingredients and I've never had a bad meal there. They also have a nice brunch on Sundays worth checking out. It's kind of hard to find but it's tucked into the corner of the shopping center to the left of Milton's.

I'm holding out until I try it with it's reborn menu and staff but the Rockford on Glenwood across from the Hibernian was always one of my favorites until it closed. I've heard differing things on the new menu after it reopened but I still love the location and decor. Prices aren't bad either 6-8$ per sandwich.

Village Deli in Cameron Village is one of my favorites for lunch. I'm not sure if it's locally owned, though.

I love Sidestreet in Oakwood! They have great food. Also, Sunflowers Cafe is a good lunch spot as well but it's always crowded!
