Hi, I have a friend that needs to get her Colombian degree in teaching (10 years teaching English as a second language in Medellin) transferred or regognized here in North Carolina, or in the Triangle area. How can she do this? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Great, thanks a couple questions:

What is the 'highly qualified' teacher standard and does it apply to her if so, how does she obtain it? Her speciality is teaching English as a Second Language.

Per Step 6: Where do i find an "evaluating agency" to translate her existing degrees?

Step 6. International Verification - If you have earned a degree from another country
Provide an evaluation from an international education evaluation service with a copy of a current work authorization visa, permanent resident card or US passport. Note: For degrees earned abroad, the transcripts must be translated into English by an evaluating agency. NC DPI will not accept translations done by the applicant.

This is one source for an "evaluating agency": World Education Services - International Education Intelligence

(I only know this because they "translated" my degree from the U.K. for an employer. Really.)

Lurk - Cool site! I've always been curious, In your opinion, how are "O" and "A" levels viewed here?

Great advice and that is the very first step. The state will need their evaluation translation to work with. It is an essential first step and it needs to be one RECOGNIZED and ACCEPTED by the state of North Carolina.
