We moved to an apartment townhome (Ticon Properties) 2 months back in Durham, NC...we were told by the apartment office that we may expect the utility bill around $30 to $40 for 2 months. We just received our first utility bill for 2 month period...which turned out to be $114....We are just two of us staying in the 2 bedroom townhome. Since the apartment is rented, we dont even have to water our lawn.I take care that there is no leakage or misuse of water. This is ridiculous......dont know what to do...please help..... can anybody tell me what is the average Utility bill for this area?
Do you mean water? My water bill is around $20 a month, and I use a good amount of water. My power bill, on the other hand, is around $60 a month, but has spiked to over $120.
Yeah, if you mean all utilities, that doesnt sound like a bad price to me!! we also have a 2br apt, and are very frugal with our consumption - water and sewer is about 40-50 a month, and the rest is 70-100 a month!
I'm still in New England and I'd LOVE to have a utility bill that low. Well, the gas bill is low in the summer because we heat the house (and also the hot water and the stove) with gas but the electric bills are high year round---lights in the winter, a/c in the summer. My average MONTHLY electric bill is about $150. My gas bill has been as high as $300/mo in the winter months. And we are very stingy with the heat and the a/c.
If you just moved to the area, are you sure the utility company didn't charge you a deposit and include it in that first bill?

I live in a Ticon townhome over here in Durham. The highest my electricity bill has been I think 120 dollars back in Jan and Feb. The last two or three billings have been 85 and 75 dollars. 114 sounds kind of high, but I have a programable thermostat that I have set to 78. 75 to 85 is about what you should expect.
You need to provide a breakdown of what you're billed for and how much each line item is. As at least one other person suggested you were probably billed a connection fee as a new customer. Progress (electric) charges a $17 connect fee in Raleigh, for example. Raleigh water/sewer charges as $50 connect fee and Durham may have something similar. If that's the case there's 1/2 your bill already.

You did not move into an apartment per say, you moved into a townhome which is essentially a home. If all you pay is electric and no gas (all running on electric) then you got a very good bill. You averaged $2.19 per day in electric use over 52 days. If what the rental office told you was true, you would be averaging .66 cents a day in usage over a 60 day period at 40.00 for two months. You had to know that was not correct, showers, dishes, cooking, lights, TV. Your on target, don't worry.
BKH, are you talking about a water bill? If so, a running (even occasionally running) or leaky toilet can run the bill up way more than one would think.
I used to rent from Ticon. $114 for 54 days--essentially almost two months electricity is about right. I had a two bedroom townhome as well. You water bill is seperate and will probably average about $35.00. I kept my thermostat around 75 and never turned it off. I would imagine the property manager meant $30 to $40 for the water bill.
