Reviving this old thread because the recent mini-discussion on Mexican Coke is buried in the Burgerfi thread.
Was at the State Farmer's Market downtown yesterday and one of the indoor stands sells old-time sodas in glass bottles, chilled, for $1.25/bottle. Checked the Coke and it's Mexican Coke. They also had Sundrop, RC Cola, Sprite and many others. Cheaper way to try a bottle if you don't want to commit to the case at Costco.
I think cane sugar sodas are starting to make a comeback. Costco also now sells a Vintage Soda box that includes Bubble Up, Dad's Root Beer, Nugrape and Nesbitt's Orange soda, all made with cane sugar. The orange and grape flavors are pretty sweet but like the root beer and bubble-up lemon-lime soda.
When I lived in Maryland we used to stock up on Kosher sodas each year around Passover which are also made with sugar and not HFCS. You could tell the difference by their yellow cap for Coke and white cap for Pepsi. I wonder if they're any different than "Mexican" sodas?
From a nutritional standpoint: no. From a taste standpoint: maybe.
I dunno. Is HFCS worse for a person than cane sugar? I think it is. Perhaps not in small amounts but they seem to add that crap to everything.
