Sorry but with the stabbing on wilmington street and the lack of visable police at night I cannot say I feel safe downtown in Raleigh at night. NYC is a whole different story and is hands down a much safer place.

I knew this was coming. One random act of violence doesn't make for a crime wave or it doesn't mean that an area is "unsafe". I'm in downtown all the time (at night mostly) and I NEVER feel unsafe. It does feel safer in downtown now then it did 5-7 years ago and that is mostly due to the increased number of people hanging out in downtown.

Mike

don't go down there then. Downtown Raleigh is a very safe area. Random acts of violence happen everywhere.

If I were you, I'd stay out of Cary...husbands murder their wives. And stay out of North Raleigh...just because!

Oh, I love this attack mode.We live in mass right now and there is a pregnant woman on a train,or a 12 year old child, in Dorchester that gets shot every week it seems. The only problem with the violence on the street here is that these guys never hit their intended target. There is always some poor innocent person that gets shot.If we teach these guys how to shoot instead of putting them in jail for 6 months and then letting them go we would be better off.Dont get me wrong, the better alternative would be letting them rot in jail but that will never happen.Unfortunately there will always be crime no matter where you are.We can only live our lives the best that we can and watch out for one another and hope that the police can do their job and keep us safe.

Its a sense of being uncomfortable in Raleigh If you look at crime stats the southern cities of America are on average much more violent than northern cities. Look You can all say what you want, I will tell you I can walk down Broadway, 57th street 101st street on the east or west side, downtown in china town or the village at any time of the day or night and yes you still need to be streetwise but downtown raleigh at certain times there is nothing but trouble possibly waiting.

Heck I worked in Newark NJ and would drive my athletes home after 10pm and felt safer than I do in parts of raleigh now.

1 random act of violence will always get a lot of attention down here. Its not as popular ..The same small random acts in NYC never gets reported. NYC is safer now than it has been in the last 30 years. But to think that NYC is safer than Raleigh is Delusional
