My husband & I got ours last summer & it took just about the full 2 weeks. They did give us a paper one for the interim that was good for 30 days & you do keep your prior state license (although if yours expires in a week that won't help you much).
Do you have a passport? You can always use that for travel and then the temporary one locally for anything you might need.
Thanks for the responses. I had the proper paperwork and passed all the test. Actually it was very quick experience. I can't believe I waited to the last minute like I did. I'll wait a week for my license to arrive.
To answer the question about documents. I took my old license, social security card, insurnace and a utility bill. That was exactly what I needed to bring. They process your information, you take a signs and laws test and that was it. They give me a temporary card for driving and let me keep my old DL.
My son get a new one for a legal name change the end of september and still has not gotten his so his has now expired.
