I kind of like this one. Many of those frames hide improper registration numbers and stickers....especially those cardboard temporary plates.
Agreed. The plate has a purpose, and clearing a few square inches is hardly a sacrifice when we have a couple hundred square feet of sheet metal and glass left over that we can pimp out at will.
I forgot about this until I saw the N&O today, but took my frame off almost as soon as the regulation was passed.
This law was passed a ways back, and I had thought it was already in effect, but the N&O reports that enforcement starts today:
Quote:
Starting today, you might get a $100 ticket if your automobile license plate is obscured by one of those fat frames that promote pastimes, car dealers and alma maters.
...
That includes every character of your license number, the state that issued your plate, and the month and year your registration expires.
Under a state law that takes effect today, you're not street-legal if any of this information is made "illegible" by a "frame or transparent, clear or color-tinted cover."
If an officer says she can't read it, that means it's illegible.
I can think of sooooo many other ways to generate money for the city/state that would make us all much more safe. This just seems like such an incredibly insignificant thing. If your tags are blocked, ok. But if the 'NC' at the bottom is partially or wholly blocked, well, who the h$&@ (heck) cares?

Maybe the cop who has to run your plates cares. Maybe he or she would like to know just who might be in that car before they have to step up to the window, and knowing which state issued the plate is an important fact. Your plate is there for identification, period.
