I am looking for a good preschool for my almost 4-year old daughter. We live near 540 and Capitol and would like something within 10 to 15 minutes driving distance. She has been in a home-based daycare with 4 other young children, but needs to move to preschool in a few months.
Preferably not something with strong church-ties. Looking for a place that offers full-day programs- this is a must. I usually work 3 days a week, so part-time tuition would be nice, although paying fulltime would not be a dealbreaker.
I like places with lots of free-play at this age, daily outdoor play. For what it's worth, my daughter is almost 4 and has started reading and writing. She loves pretend play, and I want to keep her current enthusiasm about learning things. I am not looking for something with a strong academic push (plenty of time for that later), but a safe, caring, fun setting with engaging teachers. Her older sister spent time at Durant Rd Preschool, and we're looking for additional options. Montessori would be fine too, if anyone has good experience with these. Thanks for any information on good (or bad) experiences you may have had. Both Raleigh and Wake Forest would be within driving distance since we are right at 540 and Capitol. Thanks!
I just noticed today that WRAL 'goaskmom' has a preschool database that might be useful to you. I did a quick check and it does seem to list mostly church preschools but there were a couple not associated with a church.
When my kids were smaller, I was able to do a 3 day a week preschool at the Y - not sure if they still offer such things, but that is another place to check in addition to this list.
