We'll it's official:

newsobserver.com | Lopez named Durham police chief (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/durham/durham/story/642228.html - broken link)

I was born and raised in CT and Jose Lopez has a very good reputation as Assistant Police Chief in Hartford, CT. Hartford has a crime perception problem, like Durham, and the PD in Hartford has been able to turn that around somewhat in the last few years.

Well, obviously he did something to impress the Durhan city officials. I wish Mr. Lopez and the city of Durham the best of luck.

I think he sounds like a great pick for the job.

It's a bloody shame though...I've already heard stupid folks complaining that he if of Hispanic heritage. Some folks need to get a clue.

I like this Lopez quote:

Quote:
"Durham's major crime issue is the perception of crime, the belief that there's a lot of crime out there," Lopez said. "I think that's the issue we have to tackle."
I'm looking forward to seeing what ideas he has.
