We will be hosting a rehearsal dinner in Chapel Hill later this year. We are doing the preliminary research from out-of-state, but will eventually visit to finalize our plans.

We are looking for a venue that can seat approx 50 for the rehearsal dinner, with a budget of $50.00 pp. Most of the guests will be staying at the Carolina Inn, so something in close proximity would be great. I was originally thinking of someplace with a southern bbq menu, but we want a sit down restaurant, not too casual.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

The Carolina Inn has great dining facilities, so that would be a good choice. If someone is a member of the UNC Alumni Assn, the George Watts Hill Alumni Center is nearby and would work for you.

The Carolina Club may allow non-members to use the facilities. I've had a couple things there (bridal shower, private dinner) and they did a great job.

The reception is being held at the Carolina Inn, so we are looking for a different venue.

Thank you for the suggestions so far, any other restaurants in the area to check out?

There are a ton of great restaurants on Franklin St -- just not many that can do private parties of 50. Top of the Hill has event space that can include sit-down dinners, but may be on the casual side for you. Ditto Carolina Brewery. Il Palio Restaurante would be lovely, and a close drive (but not walking distance) from the Carolina Inn. La Residence would be another nice, close option, but not exactly down-home bbq. ;-)

Spanky's has an upstairs room for private events.

Spanky's Restaurant & Bar in Chapel Hill , NC

The Sienna Hotel / Il Palio restaurant is another option.

Another would be The Franklin Hotel.

We had our rehearsal dinner at The Weathervane which is the restaurant in Southern Season.

I don't remember the cost, but our budget was less than $50/person so it should be within your range. Although we didn't include wine so that would increase your cost of course. The guests kept commenting on what a wonderful meal they had and the staff was very attentive. It worked out great for us.

The Sienna is very nice. Not sure about cost and on the formal side.
