I'm on the fence about a swing set. We have purchased 2 in our years as parents. One was from BJs. It was about $800. Then we purchased another one (when we sold our houses they got left behind for new owners) from Costco for about $1000. The swingsets were used often enough. I would love to have another one, but there are plenty of parks around I cannot justify the expense. Our deck is so high in my new house my husband just installed a couple of swings from it.
BJs - decent
Costco - better
Backyard Playground in Raleigh makes nice ones, but they use pressure treated wood instead of red wood/cedar or the like. They are still expensive also.
My neighbor has a $500 one from Walmart. Looks nice enough.
Have you guys been to Middle Creek Park? With so many nice parks in the area I would skip it.
If she's insistent then the Walmart one or whatever you can find on CL.
They're not cheap. You can check Craiglist for a used one (although I did that for a year and wasn't able to find one we liked). We ended up getting ours at Walmart. The prices were great, although you do have to put it together yourself. We got one of the nicer models, so it was about $2k, but we love it and was still half the price of a comparable set at other places. If you can wait, they often have them on sale after the summer. We got our old one for less than $400 that way.

Oh brother. I've been looking on CraigsList for a week with no luck and I thought THAT was too long.
