Default 30% of Durham Public Schools made the list!

I was just looking at this last night. 4 of the 12 Durham High Schools made the list. That's 30%!!

I only see 3 Wake County Schools. 2 if you don't count the charter school. I believe there are 21 or 22 Wake County High Schools. So that would be about 11 or 13% of the high schools in Wake County making the list.

30% in Durham made the list and 13% in Wake made the list. Now why is it that some people are always saying Wake Co. schools are better than Durham?

Here's the full list of the top 5% of American high schools for those who are interested: America's Top Public High Schools - Newsweek America's Best High Schools - MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18757087/site/newsweek/ - broken link)

And here's how they created the list: Top High Schools: How We Picked Them - Newsweek America's Best High Schools - MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18754326/site/newsweek/ - broken link)

And for those who are not too familiar with the area, here are the locations of each of the schools Cris listed.

#20 Raleigh Charter High School (Raleigh)
#56 William G. Enloe High School (Raleigh)
#105 East Chapel Hill High School (Chapel Hill)
#231 Chapel Hill High School (Chapel Hill)
#307 Charles E Jordan High School (Durham)
#346 Durham School of the Arts (Durham)
#399 Needham Broughton High School (Raleigh)
#835 Riverside High School (Durham)
#928 Northern High School (Durham)

Edited to add:
According to the WCPSS website, Wake County has 24 high schools, so 12.5% of their schools made the list.
The Durham County school system has 12 high schools, so 33.3% of their schools made the list.
And the Chapel Hill & Carrboro school system have 3 traditional high schools, so a whopping 66.6% of their schools made the list!
But no matter how you look at it, the teachers in the Triangle should be proud.

Don't forget about NC School of Science and Math - one of the "public elites" that were excluded from the list because they were just TOO good.
The Public Elites - Newsweek America's Best High Schools - MSNBC.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18784620/site/newsweek/ - broken link)

Located in Durham, but open to students all across the state.

I think the main problem with Durham schools are not at the high school level but the Elementary and middle school (please tell me if I am wrong).

Actually, it's 100% of the Chapel Hill Schools. Carrboro High School hasn't opened up yet. (It starts this fall.)

Actually, there are six main high schools in Durham: Hillside, Riverside, Northern, Southern, and Jordan, and and the School for the Arts . Lakeview is a small alternative school for student with discipline problems. The other schools are either small programs just starting this fall or are at the local community colleges.

Not saying that this isn't a nice list to have, but I wouldn't put to much stock in which high schools are better than others. I think it's very subjective and too difficult to get a true measure in my opinion.

I remember back in the early 90's when I went to school, students used to talk about Broughton & Enloe being two of the most dangerous schools to attend as far as fights, drugs, etc.

Its funny to me to see they made this list.

Times have changed!!!!

Yah, I was wondering where people were getting 12 high schools in Durham from. I was thinking, I only know of the 5 regular and 1 magnet (DSA) that you listed here. So that's 4 out of 6, right? 66% for Durham!
