Hi,
My son is enrolled in swimming classes with Morrisville aquatics center for May 2009. Today I went for registration for June and July, they said that our address is no more in morrisville ,its in Cary now, so they can't take him as Morrisville resident. and it has been chande in their system from april 30. Anyone knows anything about it?
Anyone has any idea how does it works in North Carolina? We are new here and trying to buy a house. how do we come to know about all these things?

Your zip code has nothing to do with what town your property is in. Sometimes a mailing address might indicate a particular town (i.e., Morrisville), even though the property is not within the town limits. This is based on U.S. Post Office designations.

Maybe it is your specific address? We just moved from 27560 in Durham County near Brier Creek which is quite a ways from Cary and I can't imagine it being considered Cary. Sorry I'm not much help... Cary grows quite a bit by trying to engulf everything around it. No surprise it's taking parts of Morrisville.

I think Morrisville is an incorporated town, isn't it? I don't think one town can annex part of another town - it can only annex unincorporated areas.

There are many sections of Cary that at one time or another utilized the Morrisville zipcode of 27560. This has nothing to do with which town you actually live in from a taxing perspective. Pretty much every home that now has the 27519 zip used to be a 27560. When house hunting you need to look at the taxing jurisdiction, not the mailing address.

ZIP codes are designated by the post office for the purposes of mail delivery - nothing more. They can cross town, county, city and state lines. The ZIP code name is generally assigned based on either the nearest town/city, but this does not mean you are actually in that town/city.

If you pay property taxes to Morrisville, then you really are in Morrisville and they have made a mistake. I would guess that you were in unincorporated county land that was near Morrisville, but was annexed by Cary.

Put your address in this website and you will be able to view ther property tax bills to determine what jurisdiction you live in. Doesn't matter if you own, rent or live with relatives, it is tied to the address.
