I went to the Dim Sum House today. I didn't realize Hong Kong Chinese had competition. The grease factor was getting a little high on some of the dishes at Hong Kong. I still love Hong Kong but the Dim Sum house made me feel a little more like I was in DC.
The carts were constantly coming around. The server was willing to get anything we didn't see right away. She constantly told us that. I didn't see the turnip puff. And within five minutes, she came back with one.
I liked that the shrimp dishes didn't all taste the same or have the same texture. The sesame balls were delicious without the extra greasiness I've tasted at Hong Kong lately.
As I was paying the check, the server came by with some mango pudding to try. Glad she offered it to us. It was phenomenal!
I will still go to Hong Kong (since I live literally four minutes away). I think I am going to alternate between Hong Kong and Dim Sum House. Finally more than one decent dim sum place!
You pay per item. Compared to Hong Kong, they are a little higher. They serve Dim Sum all the time. The server recommended going during the weekend rush around 10:30/11:30 when all items are available.
If you're talking about the place near Blue Moon Cafe, then I'd have to agree with the OP. My first choice used to be NeoChina in Cary but it was a bit far. I had been going to Hong Kong in Durham (near the Costco). I never liked the way that restaurant looked inside. It always feels a little dirty. Sometimes the food wasn't very hot and didn't seem fresh.
The first time my partner tried Dim Sum House he liked it. It's not perfect either but it's closer to us than Hong Kong Restaurant is.
