Hi,
My husband and I are considering a move out to Knightdale from our current home near Brier Creek. I know for folks working in RTP, this is ridiculous, but we both work in downtown Raleigh, go out there, and our families are located out that way. We also like getting more for our money out there.

My question is around traffic for the commute into downtown Raleigh - either via Knightdale Blvd/ New Bern or 64 to the Beltway. I should note that we don't roll into work until around 9:30, so not moving real early. It doesn't look bad on the map, but not sure what rush hour looks like. We both have a 30-minute commute now and never have to deal with any traffic except for the rare major accident. We'd love to shave some time. Thanks!

Depending on exactly where in Knightdale you are starting from and where in Downtown Raleigh you are going I would expect the drive to take 15-20(tops) minutes.

I don't know if the 64 bypass had helped unclog New Bern Ave outside the Beltline or not. If it has, the commute to DT could be a straight shot down New Bern. Whatever the case, it has to be shorter than commuting from Brier Creek.

I go through Knightdale 3 mornings a week. I cut through on my way to Wake Tech's north campus from Garner. Sometimes get on the bypass at New Hope road and take it to 540, other times I take New Hop to 64 business. At 9:30 everything seems fine. No real traffic problems. Good luck with the move! That's not a bad commute at all.

You won't have a problem at all. The bypass did relieve a lot of the traffic load.

I live in the area, been here for years. Since the bypass opened it's taken a lot of traffic off 64/New Bern. Even at rush hr the traffic here isn't bad. I used to drive to downtown from Rogers Lane area at rush hr and it would take me 20 minutes - 15 on slow days or off peak and weekends. At 9am, the traffic is light and moves quickly. This area is also a good location for getting to North Hills and Crabtree Mall as well as Triangle town Ctr mall is 15-20 mins. from Rogers Lane.

You'll love this location!

As others have said - the commute to DT isn't bad at all. It took me less than 15min most mornings to get from the light at Wal-Mart/Bojangles (hedingham blvd) over to Boylan Ave at 7:30 or so. I haven't done the rush hour commute since then - but it takes me right at 5min from my house in Planters Walk to get to the Sheetz off of New Bern. The only obnoxious part is that the lights aren't syncronized until you get DT. I think the city is working on this.. but not entirely sure.

It will take you at most 20 minutes to go downtown.
