I recently heard that you can get a cheap massage at Miller-Motte College (in Cary) from a student. I am just wondering if anyone has had a massage there and if so, was it a good experience? I tried the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill for a cut/highlights and while the student did a good job, the place was like a mad house. It was crowded, chaotic, and loud. I don't want to be a snob but I think that ruined the experience for me and I'd rather pay more for a nicer environment. I'm inclined to think the massage would have to be different by necessity - wouldn't it have to be in a private room to facilitate disrobing? But I am curious to know if it's a quiet, relaxing environment. I know I won't be treated like royalty the way I am at a pricey spa (fluffy robe, orchids, hot tea, enya music, incense), after all you get what you pay for. But I would like to know that it's private, quiet, and professional. And that it's a good massage. Doesn't have to be the best but good. Otherwise I think I'll pass. Thanks for your input!
I'm a graduate of the Miller-Motte College in Cary ( Esthetician, not Massage Therapist). There are private rooms for the massages and the students are pretty good. The only thing you may find to be a problem is that you can sometimes hear students talking in the hallway. The instructors try to keep them quiet but occasionally they get noisy, especially if it's really busy. It's usually not a big problem but it does happen.
If you're concerned about having a student give you a massage you could request the licensed therapist. It costs a little more but it's an option.
I had one there not too long ago. I think the guys name was Shawn. It was really great. He asked questions about my life and any problems I had before starting and really focused on what I said.
I've been to Miller Motte a bunch of times for massage and facial service and have been very pleased. This last time, I ended up in an open classroom with only a curtain surrounding me. In the future I will be requesting they cancel in advance if they can't put me in a private room. There's also Medical Arts School, it's just off Capital at 540. Pricing is similar and rooms are private.
I used to go to massage envy before I moved to the area, it was reasonalbe at 39 a month for a year and that price included 1 massage, each additional is 39. It was always very quiet, clean, and professional.
