There was a really long article in Bloomberg BusinessWeek with the fracking in the NE. Part of the issue with fracking is the chemicals that are pumped into the ground. They are very toxic, and the biggest issue is spills above ground. The other problem is the gas tends to flow into the water supply. It some cases in PA, tap water can be lit on fire because there is so much methane(?) in it. This is a big deal being so close to our water supply. Many in PA have been forced to move because of it, and chances are this will also happen here in NC. Why they would do this so close to our water supply utterly and completely baffles me.
This looks like a snippet of what was actually published in the magazine (which I read):
The winners are the property owners who will lease the land to the gas companies, and the gas companies. Also there will be a boon to the local economy as many higher paying jobs are added. I just worry about the environmental issues.
'Gasland' powers Big Green myth-making about fracking | John Stossel | Columnists | Washington Examiner (http://washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/2011/05/gasland-powers-big-green-myth-making-about-fracking - broken link)
good article - I am not easily swayed by the Michael Moore - type movies, which I thought Gasland sort of was, but it was thought provoking, and it is always good to see another take.

Note that John Stossel = Michael Moore. Neither is objective.
