We live in the Cary area, having moved from Atlanta. Atlanta has several vegetarian restaurants, one of which is outstanding.

We are looking for the best available in the Cary and Raleigh area.

Any inputs will be appreciated.

Well you can usually get good veg food at Indian restaurants. Udipi in Cary is a good one. All veg.

Market is not vegetarian but is very popular among vegetarians for its selection of vegetarian dishes.

Fresh Local Organic Restaurant Downtown Raleigh - Market Restaurant

Butternut Squash and Sage in Chapel Hill are both veg. not sure I would call either one outstanding.

Agree!

There is also Tower India (not fancy, but good) and next to that is Mawa's African, which has meat, but they also have a vegan section of the menu.

Irregardless always comes up in these discussions, and is a good choice (also good because you can dine with your carnivorous buddies and all eat well.)

I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine Maxamillion's has some good options (and much like Irregardless, it has options for all), and is right there in Cary.

More if I think of it....

I actually like Sage a lot, but not Butternnut Squash so much. I would also agree that the vast selection of Indian restaurants throughout the triangle are where it's at. Tower Indian Restaurant in Morrisville is all veg. Tower Restaurant Cary NC - Home The Remedy Diner in Raleigh has a good amount of veg options, but they are mostly veg versions of diner food --- not bad, just nothing real unique.

Other than ethnic restaurants, the pickings are pretty slim. I did finally get to Irregardless this past weekend and it was very good (but expensive). I sometimes wish I'd gone vegetarian before moving here - I would have picked a more veg*n friendly place (like Asheville). On the other hand, I shouldn't be eating out that much anyhow!

PS - At least there is a vegan Thanksgiving to look forward to! (Last year's info: http://www.trianglevegsociety.org/thanksgiving10/)
