Are there alot of New Yorkers that have moved to Raleigh? Is it a huge difference?

Yes for the first. Depends on where in NY you are from for the second.

For LI'ers and down-staters the area is smaller and less vibrant, ....BUT...
No congestion, no lines for everything, no parking on the LIE during daily commutes, better cost of living, etc.

For people moving from, say Potsdam NY, this area is much bigger, more vibrant, the grocery stores are actually clean here, no access to Brador beer, and you won't get Canadian coins for change.

So, yeah, there are differences.

it does feel like that sometimes

My SO has lived in LI his entire life (works in the city) and will be visiting for two weeks at the end of this month. I've tried to prepare him the best I can and warned him about the bagels LOL. There are lots of differences but whether or not you like them will depend on what you like and don't like about LI and what you can live without.

That's one of the things I'll miss the most bagels and pizza!! And I'm use to having every store or everything I could need no more then a 15min drive away. I have every thing you can imagine near me. So I'm affraid to live by nothing!!!

Do you mean big hair and all?

You're better off listing what you like to do and asking for input. I lived all over NY and liked LI the least, however I was in for a culture shock when I moved from LI to a small town in northern NY. I got over that and really enjoyed a more peaceful and slower pace. If it's nightlife you're after then you can choose different vibes in Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh. Each is a bit unique. Deli-wise...well, you can find Boars Head products down here It really depends on what you like and finding that here. There are a lot of NYers here so many people have found an enjoyable life. While I miss NYC, deli's, bakeries, etc, I would never move back to LI.

If you come here expecting everything to be just like it was back home (no matter where you're from) you will be disappointed and ultimately unhappy. You need to come with an attitude of accepting and enjoying the uniqueness that is this area. If you're looking for NY with better weather, this ain't the place.

No big hair but I deff. say Long GUYland! lol Like I siad I'm just use to being able to get everywere I need in no more then 15 mins. Also everything is open late and it's never an issue with what time at night it is because you can always find what you need. And the main thing is I don't know how I'll adjust to a slower pace.
