I'd like to see some of the fairground activities on the 4th and the fireworks. I'd be driving from Cary. What is the best/easiest place to park for state fairgrounds. I'd like to be in the least mess as possible. I expect it will be very crowded.
Any other tips on what I should bring for a fun few hours there? Anything to avoid? I'm bringing out of town guests and am just trying to make it all go smooth. Thanks for any tips!
Your real challenge will be getting out after the fireworks.
Exiting the Fairgrounds is a bother.
And, if it is going to be stinking hot, having the car close is advisable.
I would try to park to exit onto Youth Camp Rd, to Trinity, and back to Cary that way.
Fairgrounds fireworks are a pretty good display. I will be able to hear them over by Davis Drive...
I have not been in a few years, but my experience (echoed by friends who have gone more recently) is that geting out after the show is a huge hassle (hour plus backups). The only time I managed to avoid it was when we parked and sat near the football stadium. The view of the fireworks was somewhat obscured at times, but we were able to scoot out quickly when they were over.
Last year we paid to park on NC States property. I forget what the place is called but it's right off the exit ramp leading on to Hillsbourgh St. It was WELL worth it because we were out of the parking lot and on the road in matter of minutes.
I don't have any tips other than bring your patience! I went in 2005 and I swear it took me at least 90 minutes to get out of there (parked over by the NC Museum of Art).
We always drive up Lake Boone Tr....turn left on Rex Woods and park behind the office buildings on the corner of Blue Ridge and Lake Boone. We walk up Blue Ridge and sit somewhere near the Art Museum. When the fireworks are over we can get out onto Lake Boone and get to the Beltline without getting into any traffic....so far anyway
