I am so tired of hearing how hot it is...it's August...we are in NC...what did everyone expect?? 70 degree no humidity in August? haha
The news is no better...all the hype about the heat...just keep cool, restrict activities to the times of day the sun is not beating down on you...I really feel for outside workers...highway, construction...what about them? we are all sitting in our air conditioned offices/homes...anyway...thought I would vent...
Are those guys still required to work outside all day when there are heat and ozone warnings? I sure hope not. I did feel really bad for the trash guys today, they looked absolutley miserable. I should have offered them something to drink.

Considering we are having a record heat wave, they probably expected low-to-mid 90s, not the low-to-mid 100s we are suffering through. As bad as low 90s can feel, low 100s feels much, much hotter. I can only remember about one other prolonged heat wave like this since I've lived in the Raleigh area (20 years now). Not saying there weren't others, I just don't remember any.
I really feel for the local college and high school football players who have to practice in this stuff.
Yeah, there are some still required to work outside in spite of the heat. Offering water would be a good thing. Liz
I used to work at the airport directing Traffic (had to take the job because we already moved and had nothing lined up). Anyway between the 10 hour shifts standing for 9½ of them and people yelling and screaming at me anyway, the heat just literally beat you down. I felt like I went through a war zone everyday when I got home. That was a totally thankless job and I was a cop for 4 years. Being a cop was MUCH easier...
I know a couple of guys who own their own construction businesses here (MA) and they won't let their guys work outside when it's too cold but they'll let them work in this heat. Besides the fact that you can't get much done when there's a layer of permafrost on the ground, wouldn't it be easier to work outside in the cold than the heat? You can always insulate against the -40 windchill. (/sarcasm)
How 'bout "it was so hot outside, I saw a bird using a potholder to grab a worm"
